TRI TOAD FARMING PROJECT BUILDING TOWARDS SUCCESS

Tri Toad is a female-owned smallholder farming project that specialises in vegetables, herbs and flower seedlings. Tri Toad’s project beneficiary, Ms Sheena Paulus, leases an undercover tunnel production space from a commercial vegetable seedlings producer in Schaapkraal at Philippi.

Sheena said, “At Tri Toad, we are most grateful to Casidra, especially Gerrit van Schalkwyk, senior project manager, and the WCDoA’s extension officer, Jacob Modise, for implementing our project successfully. We received protective clothing, seedling trays, seeds, growing medium and fertilisers on time without any problems after the project’s funding was approved”. Sheena concluded that they appreciate a continuous support from the WCDoA and Casidra.

Tri Toad’s expanded product range includes pot plants and seedlings. Sheena currently grows her own peppers and chillies as well as herbs, which are grown in a vertical soilless hydroponic system and will be expanded on. Her future plans include tapping into and researching the Cannabis industry and to procure Landorf Nursery within the next few 2 -4 years and maximise the current space and economic opportunities.
