KRAAIFONTEIN: BOOYSENS BOERDERY: CONSTRUCTION OF AN ELECTRIFIED FENCE.
The works as described are required on location which is situated approximately 5 kilometres south of Kraaifontein. The successful bidder must have the capacity to start the works within 7 (seven) days of appointment
Conditions that may pose a risk:
This specific area is a very high crime area. The Contractor must put all necessary precautions in place to work under these conditions and to provide his / her own security and for the safekeeping of material and equipment
The scope of works will include the following:
CLEARING FENCE LINE:
Remove the existing fence and leave all material on site. The new fence shall be cleared over a width of at least 1m on each side of the centre line of the fence and surfacing irregularities shall be graded so that the fence will follow the general contour of the ground. The bottom of the fence shall be located a uniform distance above the ground line. Allowance must be made to level the fencing line to gain an even height of the fencing.
Excavate, to a minimum depth of 600mm x 450 x 450mm square holes, spaced as shown, for concreting in of 120mm diameter creosoted wooden posts.
Form the concrete bases to the posts with 15 Mpa concrete (1:3:6 with 19mm stone) as shown on the drawing and carried up to ground level, where applicable, in properly constructed temporary formwork. The posts are to be embedded in the concrete as the work proceeds.
The corner and gate posts to be 150mm diameter posts and all intermediate and straining posts to be 120mm diameter creosoted treated and all to be 2600mm long.
The wooden posts shall be spaced at 3000mm centre to centre.
Provide the fence with six strands of 2.24mm diameter fully galvanised high straining wires as shown.
Cover vertical portion of fence to a height of 1800mm with 50 x 25 x 2,5mm diameter welded rectangular steel mesh and fix to strands with 2,5mm binding wire.
Allow for the construction of 370 metres fencing including the sliding gate of 5 metre.
MOTORISED SLIDING GATE:
Supply and fit a mild steel sliding gates constructed out of 75 x 50 x 2,0mm thick mild steel rectangular tubing framework, mitred at angles and all welded together. Allow for a 100 x 40 x 2,0mm thick mild steel rectangular tubing (middle rail) support in the middle of the gate framework.
Fill in the framework with 20 x 20 x 1,6mm thick mild steel vertical square tubing below the rectangular tubing support and 12mm thick mild steel square bars above the rectangular tubing support, spaced at not exceeding 100mm centres all neatly welded to the top, middle and bottom rails.
Fit 2 x 75mm diameter casing wheels into the bottom rail of the framework. The wheels to run on a 10mm diameter mild steel round bar which is welded to a 40 x 40 x 6mm thick mild steel angle iron which again is embedded in 150 x 150mm thick 20 Mpa concrete.
Allow for the construction of one gate of 5 meters wide. The gate shall be fitted with an electronic Battery Back-up motor suitable to operate the gate. (NOT A BATTERY-RUN MOTOR)
All metalwork to be hot dipped galvanised.
Provide and fix to the top section of the posts, 3 off 2,24mm diameter high tension steel straining wires, spaced at 60mm apart. The wiring to be fixed against the posts with Y standard insulators and to the corner and straining posts with strain insulators, all as per manufacturer’s instructions.
Warning signs shall be installed every 10m against the fence. The minimum size of a warning sign should be no less than 200 x 100mm
From the nearest electrical supply point, which will be approximately 80 metres away, provide and install a 16 Ampere circuit breaker and from the circuit breaker lay 1,5mm² wiring towards the energiser power point.
The cable installed from the energizer to the fence shall be High Tension (HT) cable and shall be installed inside UPVC conduit. One strobe light and siren must be installed at the energizer.
Provide earth spikes (min 10mm diameter, 1200mm long) and install three of it as close as possible to the energizer and from there every 30 metres on the fencing.
The above electrical scope of works is a guideline only and must be verified by a qualified electrician. All changes and “Own Designs” must be indicated on the attached form “CHANGES MADE BY BIDDER”
The Electrical Contractor to be registered with SAEFIA (South Africa Electrical Fence Installers Association).
Bidders are advised to thoroughly acquaint themselves with the nature and extend of work to be done, with the site conditions and to re-measure cable lengths as to what was provided in the document.
All wiring shall be enclosed in 20mm diameter UPVC conduit and buried underground at least 700mm in depth
All work shall be carried out according to SANS 0142 and certificate of compliance shall be submitted on completion of service.
On completion hand over 4 remote controls to the owners.

In accordance with Casidra’s Preferential Procurement Policy, this bid as further indicated in CBD 5.1 is subject to:
- a functionality compliance test;
- B-BBEE certified bids will receive preferential scores;
- Local production and content
This bid include goods from a designated sector “Steel products and components”, “Electrical cabling” and only locally produced goods, or locally manufactured goods with a stipulated minimum threshold for local production and content will be considered. SBD 6.2 and Annex C, D and E documentation apply and must be completed and handed in with this bid.
The successful bidder will be required to fill in and sign a written Contract Form (CBD 8). Included are a penalty clause of R 550.00 /calendar day that apply for late completion of works and a 10% retention fee for 3 months not bearing interest.
BID DEADLINE: The closing date for the bid is 27 March 2019 strictly at 12H00.
Bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the name of the bidder and the inscription “KRAAIFONTEIN: BOOYSEN BOERDERY: CONSTRUCTION OF AN ELECTRIFIED FENCE – BID NO. 291/2018” and placed in the bid box available at Reception of Casidra’s Head Office, 22 Louws Avenue, Southern Paarl. No faxed, counter-to-counter courier or posted bids will be accepted.
The following documents (including fully completed and signed CBD forms numbered 1 to 5 as supplied) must be valid for a period of 60 calendar days after closure of the bid and submitted as a bid packet:
- A completed project bid with all supplied CBD forms fully completed and signed.
- A certified copy of the company’s BEE Certificate / original Sworn Affidavit (please see CBD 5.1 which is applicable). Tax Clearance is compulsory and must be indicated as compliant on CSD for the principle and all sub-contractors.
- Completed and signed PPP (CBD 5.1) form.
- Registration on the CSD is compulsory and CSD Supplier Registration numbers must be supplied.
- Fully completed, stamped and signed Bank Entity Form (Form CBD 7), unless the company banking information indicate “verified” on the CSD
