R20 MILLION DISASTER PROJECT SAFEGUARDS TESSELAARSDAL COMMUNITY
Tesselaarsdal, a dispersed rural settlement in the Theewaterskloof Municipality, houses approximately 2000 residents, excluding those on surrounding farms. Located on the northern side of the Kleinrivier Mountains, it is situated 20 kilometres south of Caledon in the Western Cape.
In 2016, Casidra launched a R20 million disaster management project to address erosion in Tesselaarsdal. The project included the construction of five weirs, the rehabilitation of the river between them, and landscaping and planting along the wetland and river on Farm 811, portions 482 and 20.
Despite recent flooding across the Western Cape, the weirs have demonstrated their effectiveness by withstanding the floods and protecting both agricultural land and the local community. Casidra takes pride in the project’s success, which has been met with enthusiasm and gratitude from local farmers for the high quality of the work and its positive impact during the floods.
