EBENHAEZER IRRIGATION SCHEME PROJECT

EBENHAEZER IRRIGATION SCHEME PROJECT

Agriculture is crucial for driving economic growth, alleviating poverty, and enhancing food security. Farmers at all levels are pivotal to these efforts, contributing significantly to the economic stability of our Province and the nation.

The Western Cape is particularly vulnerable to the effects of global warming and climate change. As a result, Casidra has prioritised projects that support both small-scale and commercial farmers, focusing on integrated rural development and the enhancement of farming practices.

One of Casidra’s notable successes is the Ebenhaezer Irrigation Scheme, a R10 million project located at the lower end of the Olifants River. This initiative involved upgrading off-farm irrigation infrastructure, improving on-farm viability, addressing the specific needs of the farmers in Ebenhaezer, and fostering a supportive institutional environment. Casidra’s intervention was crucial in resolving water distribution and farming challenges, enabling local farmers to continue their agricultural activities effectively.

Equipping farmers with essential skills, knowledge, and financial resources vital for effective farm management and maintenance was emphasised. Through this project, Casidra demonstrated its steadfast commitment to empowering farmers, ensuring access to reliable water resources, and facilitating positive changes in their farming practices.

Thanks to Casidra’s dedicated efforts and support, the Ebenhaezer Irrigation Scheme was completed on time, providing significant benefits to the farming community.
