A Farming Future Fuelled by Innovation and Clean Energy
In the heart of Ceres’ cold Bokkeveld region, something remarkable is taking root. Founded in 2021, BV Jeena Farming has grown from humble beginnings into a thriving agricultural enterprise under the leadership of Bradley Jeena. With support from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture’s CASP funding and the dedicated assistance of Casidra, Bradley’s journey is one of resilience, strategic investment, and community empowerment.
Today, with over 40 hectares of onions harvested, the project is not only boosting food production — it’s also creating much-needed job opportunities for local women, making a real social impact.
But the innovation doesn’t end there. In celebration of Energy Month, we’re proud to spotlight a major milestone: the successful installation of a solar-powered irrigation system. Starting with irrigation materials for a 1-hectare plot, the project culminated in a fully operational solar energy solution, completed in January 2025 after a careful tender process.
Thanks to this clean energy advancement, BV Jeena Farming is embracing a greener future — improving water access, enhancing productivity, and reducing environmental impact.
This isn’t just about growing onions. It’s about empowering rural communities, advancing sustainable farming, and building a resilient agricultural future.
